Order tracking automation (WISMO)
Quick definition
Order tracking automation answers “where is my order?” questions, often called WISMO, automatically. It reads the order's status and shipment tracking from the store and carrier systems instead of involving an agent.

Why WISMO matters
In online retail, questions about order status and delivery are typically among the most frequent support requests, especially after sales peaks or when a carrier has delays. Each one is simple, but answering by hand means opening the back office, finding the order, copying the tracking number and checking the carrier's site.
Automating these answers frees the team for problems that need judgement, and gives customers an immediate answer at any hour, which is when many of them check on their parcel.
How it works
The customer asks about their order. The system identifies the customer, finds the order in the e-commerce platform — by order reference or by their account — and reads its status: paid, prepared, shipped, delivered. If a tracking number exists, it can query the carrier for the latest event. The answer combines both: “Your order was shipped on Tuesday; the carrier shows it at the local depot and expects delivery tomorrow.”
An AI assistant can also handle the follow-up in the same conversation: a delivery address question, a missing item, a return.
Identity and other pitfalls
Order data is personal data. Before showing an order, the system must be sure the person asking is its owner. An order number alone is weak proof, since it may be printed on a parcel or shared; a signed-in account or a verification code sent to the order's email address is safer.
Other limits are practical: carrier data can lag, some orders have several parcels, and problems such as a lost parcel, a damaged item or a delivery dispute should go to a person rather than be answered automatically.
Order tracking in AI SmartTalk
AI SmartTalk assistants can look up orders on PrestaShop — by reference, order number or invoice number, plus the order history — and the latest order on WooCommerce. The customer must be signed in: an anonymous visitor first confirms their email with a 5-digit code, and the assistant only sees that customer's own orders. On PrestaShop, carrier tracking can be added when parcel tracking is configured. Shopify order lookup is not available in the chat.
Frequently asked questions
What does WISMO mean?
WISMO stands for “Where is my order?”, the support industry's name for questions about order status and delivery.
Is it safe to let a chatbot show order details?
Yes, if the system verifies that the person is the order's owner — through a signed-in account or a code sent to the order's email — and only returns that customer's orders.
Can order tracking automation handle delivery problems?
It can explain the status and the carrier's latest information. Lost, damaged or disputed parcels should be handed to a person who can open a claim or arrange a replacement.
