Your content already holds most of the answers
A WordPress site usually contains everything a visitor asks about — opening hours, prices, how a service works, what is included, how to cancel. The trouble is that visitors do not read it; they write to you. AI SmartTalk reads that content for them: the plugin sends your published posts, pages and public custom post types to the agent's knowledge base, and the agent answers in the chat, citing what you actually wrote, in the language the visitor writes in.
The sync follows your editing. When you save a published post, the plugin sends the new version, skipping autosaves, revisions and unchanged content; deleting a post removes it from the agent. Content from page builders is sent as rendered HTML, so text laid out with blocks or shortcodes is read the way visitors see it. If you run WooCommerce, the same plugin also carries your products and, for signed-in customers, their latest order.
What the agent does
Learns your posts, pages and custom post types
Every published, non-password-protected item of a public post type is synced, with its title, URL and featured image. Internal types of page builders such as Divi, WPBakery or Oxygen are left out so templates do not pollute the answers.
Recognises your logged-in users
With auto-login on, a visitor who is signed in to WordPress is signed in to the chat too: the plugin requests a short-lived token for that user, so the agent knows who it is talking to and your team sees a named contact in the inbox.
Hands over to a person
When human handoff is switched on, the agent follows the rules you write — a complaint, a refund, a question it cannot answer — and alerts your team by email, browser notification or mobile push. The AI can pause while someone replies from the shared inbox.
Follows your look and your languages
Button text, position, size, colours and light or dark mode can be set in AI SmartTalk or overridden in the plugin settings. You choose which languages the widget offers; the agent replies in the visitor's language.
Asks for consent when you need it
The widget can display a GDPR consent notice or a consent wall before the first message, and you can restrict the chat to logged-in users for a members-only site.
Set it up
- 1
Download and upload the plugin
Download the plugin ZIP from the WordPress page of your AI SmartTalk dashboard, then in WordPress go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and activate it. It needs WordPress 5.0 or later and PHP 7.4 or later, and it updates itself afterwards.
- 2
Connect your account
Open the AI SmartTalk menu in WordPress and click Connect. You sign in to AI SmartTalk and approve access; the site is then linked to your assistant without any API key to copy.
- 3
Sync your content
In the Sync tab, choose what to send — posts and pages, products, or both — and run the first sync. From then on, each saved post is sent on its own.
- 4
Switch on the chat and test it
Enable the chat widget, set its appearance and languages, write your handoff rules, then ask a few real questions in the preview. The widget appears on every page of the site once it is enabled.
Honest limits
What it does not do
The widget is switched on or off for the whole site: the plugin has no rule to hide it on chosen pages. Only published content is learned — drafts, private posts and password-protected pages stay out. The agent answers from what you have written; it does not edit your site, process payments or settle billing disputes, and handoff only reaches your team while someone is there to answer.
Frequently asked questions
Is the plugin on the WordPress.org directory?
You install it from a ZIP file downloaded from your AI SmartTalk dashboard. Once installed, it updates itself from AI SmartTalk, with a checksum check on every update.
Does it work with my page builder?
Yes. Content is sent as rendered HTML, so text built with Gutenberg blocks, shortcodes or builders such as Elementor or Divi is read as visitors see it.
Can I sync a custom post type such as courses or properties?
Public custom post types are synced by default. A developer can narrow or extend the list with the aism_syncable_post_types filter.
How much does it cost?
The plugin is free. You pay for your AI SmartTalk plan, from €9.90 per month with AI included within the plan's monthly allowance of AI words, and you can try it free for 30 days.
