More than saved replies and keyword triggers
Meta's built-in automated responses react to keywords or to a fixed list of questions: they help when the customer types exactly what you expected. AI SmartTalk understands the question instead. "do u deliver to Lyon", "what time do you close tonight?" or a voice message are matched to the right entry of your FAQ by meaning, and answered in the customer's language.
The agent's knowledge is the FAQ you write in AI SmartTalk plus your website pages and documents. Keep it current in one place and the answer changes on Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp and your website together. When the knowledge base has nothing on a question, the agent says so instead of guessing and, if you have switched handoff on, passes the conversation to your team.
What the agent does
Understands the question, not keywords
Answers are found by meaning, so short, misspelt or indirect questions still get the right entry of your FAQ.
Voice messages too
Audio messages sent on Messenger are transcribed and answered like written questions.
Replies in the customer's language
One FAQ is enough: the agent writes back in the language of each customer's message.
FAQ built from your documents
Add entries by hand, upload a spreadsheet of questions and answers, or extract question-and-answer pairs from a PDF such as your terms and conditions.
Honest when it does not know
Questions that nothing in the knowledge base covers are not answered with a guess; with handoff on, your team takes over.
Set it up
- 1
List the questions you get on Messenger
Look through your Page inbox and note the questions that come back every week, with the answer you give each time.
- 2
Build the knowledge base
Add those questions as FAQ entries and add your website, so the agent also has the details around them.
- 3
Connect your Page
Open Integrations → Messenger, log in with Facebook and select the Page.
- 4
Review conversations
Read a sample of conversations in the inbox each week and add an entry wherever the agent had to say it did not know.
Honest limits
What it does not do
The agent replies to private messages within Messenger's 24-hour window; it does not answer comments and cannot broadcast an announcement to people who messaged you before. It does not replace Meta's ice-breakers or welcome message, which you still set in Meta Business Suite. Answers are plain text up to 2,000 characters, and the answer feedback buttons of the website chat are not available on Messenger.
Frequently asked questions
Should I turn off Meta's automated responses?
Turn off the instant replies and keyword-based answers that would compete with the agent; otherwise the customer may receive two answers to the same message.
How do I update an answer?
Edit the entry in AI SmartTalk. The next reply uses the new version on Messenger and on every other channel connected to the agent.
What if the question is not in my FAQ?
The agent also searches your website and documents. If nothing covers the question, it says so and can hand over to your team.
How much does it cost?
AI SmartTalk plans start at €9.90 per month with AI included within the plan's monthly allowance of AI words, and there is a 30-day free trial.
